World Maths Day 2025 - How tall is the school?
BackAll classes at Flamstead End were challenged to measure the height of each individual child and then estimate how tall it would be if each child stood on top of eachother. Mr Woodhouse launched the challenge to pupils in assembly with the initial excitement being whether we would be as tall as an oak tree, London's Big Ben or even the UK's largest mountain: Ben Nevis!
Classes participated in discussion as to efficient methods of measuring the class - and a whole variety of methods were suggested and executed. For example, in year 6, Mr Hembrough's maths group lay on the floor on the playground in a perfectly straight line whilst being measured in one go, whereas Mr Woodhouse's group were measured individually and the pupils used calculated the total height.
Well done and thank you to all participating classes.
