Canoe Slalom World Championship!

Year 5 had an amazing opportunity to attend the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships on 21st September 2023 at the Lea Valley White Water Centre. 

When we arrived, the athletes were already in full swing and kayaking their way down the course trying to achieve their best times in order to get through to the semi finals this coming weekend. We waved our flags and cheered for all the competitors. 

We also had the opportunity to meet and speak to some of the athletes. We met Phoebe Spicer, who had qualified for the semi finals earlier that morning (and is also our very own Sue Spicer's daughter!), Kimberley Woods and Ben Haylett. Ben even brought his kayak with him for the children to sit in. 

All the athletes spoke about how they started at a young age just trying out the activities on offer at the White Water Centre, and encouraged our Year 5 children to do the same. 

We all had a great day that the children will all remember for a long time to come.
